CONFLICT OF INTEREST ? dies and jordan Reward Campaign Donor With TAXPAYER MONEY! dies and jordan breaking the ethical code of public officials. dies and jordan voted in favour of the purchase of land from Mrs. Vera Emerson for the sum of $440,000. Vera Emerson, in 2006, donated $750 to Colleen’s and $500.00 to die’s campaign.
Although this isn’t a legal “Conflict of Interest”, dies and jordan should not have voted on this issue. dies and jordan continue to campaign on being “Developer Free.”.
Residents need to be questioning the ethical practices of the above mentioned representatives.
We need representatives that adhere to a higher standard & will bring forth the true needs of the residents in ward 3. dies currently votes 100% in favour with the Mayor.. It is time for some debate, ideas and actual decision making!

FAIR VOTE CANADA - TAKES INCUMBENT Dies NAME OFF LIST EMAIL Received October 12, 2010 - ___________________________________________________________________________________________ From: Chris Brisbane @ Fair Vote Canada To: jdinsure@rogers.com Sent: Tue, October 12, 2010 5:05:19 PM Subject: RE: Fair Vote Canada - Campaign Finance Reform Survey
Hi Marsha, We checked with our superiors at Fair Vote, and although Joanne Dies does not accept developer money, she does accept corporate donations. We will be removing her name from the survey list. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ The questions are: 1) Do you support a ban on corporate and union campaign contributions in municipal elections? 2) Have you accepted these types of donations in your current campaign?
Joanne Dies stated she supports the ban. However, her web site clearly states that she has accepted corporate donations in her 2010 campaign (McDonalds- Ajax, Rockcliffe Promotions, Annandale Golf Club,Magwyers Pub, Pickering Playing Fields, etc) and previous campaign records show business donations.
Corporations and Developers, they are all businesses in Ajax. The gears of industry and commerce for our town. Marsha Dooley has self funded her campaign to avoid any conflicts of interests (as does Pat Brown).

Ajax's cost for St. Francis retrofit double the original estimate Town to pay half of $3.4 million, feds and Province split the rest. June 17, 2010 - 04:30 AM - Reka Szekely http://www.newsdurhamregion.com/news/ajax/article/156377 Marsha’s Comments The costs have not doubled, they have tripled! St. Francis restoration costs started at $1.2M in 2008, increased to $2.6M in 2009, now $3.4M in 2010 and it is not done yet! When the building was bought the Town had no plans for it’s use. When the decision was made to make it a theater the costs began to soar. I believe in the preservation of our past. Surely there were other ways and means with community involvement. Couldn’t we have done the minimum, keeping the historical integrity, (the front facade) by using it as an extension of the Village Library or a community hall, like the Quaker house on Hwy 2? Do we really need hydraulic lift staging for 137 seats along with a dug out basement? What happened to the historical integrity? Seating is for 137 people! Oshawa Little Theater has seating for 354. It appears the costs went from $2.6Million to $3.4 Millsion when council decided to call it St. Francis Arts and Cultural Centre. I’m proud to say I sang in the choir for over 10 years and that all my children were christened in St. Francis DeSales Church.
http://www.newsdurhamregion.com/article/94109 $700Gs this year, $513Gs next year Feb 21, 2008 - 10:37 AM - By Keith Gilligan http://www.newsdurhamregion.com/article/128673 Almost $2.6 million to be invested in turning church into performing arts and culture venue Jun 16, 2009 - 02:26 PM - By Reka Szekely
UPDATE: Seating has been reduced to 137 seats (down from 160) Parking permit granted for 30 - 34 spaces when School is out and when School does not have any functions. With bike paths now on Church Street there is no on street parking. Parking will end up on side streets of Christina Crescent and Lincoln Avenue

June 23, 2010 ‘Lack of debate and insight during meetings and a vast majority of motions are passed unanimously...’ ‘Elected officials are chosen on faith to represent a diversity of political opinions when major decisions are being made. This doesn’t happen in Ajax and though council is efficient, it does a disservice to ratepayers with its record of rubber stamping....’ ‘A wider scope of debate is required and more accountability from councillors’ NewAdvertiser http://www.newsdurhamregion.com/articlePrint/156773

September 16, 2010 ‘I see it all the time at council meetings... which I've attended in Ajax, Pickering, Clarington, Oshawa and at the Region -- an almost casual disregard for the discontent of residents. ‘Even the setup is intimidating. May 26, 2010 Ward 3 councillor seeking re-election doesn't follow the rules (using the Town Logo). April 1, 2010 Did you get a raise this year? Council did! "The indexing means councillors saw a 3.7-per cent increase to their base pay in 2009 and they'll see an 8% increase in 2010." Canada’s target rate of inflation is 2%. http://durhamregion.com/article/151418 It is Job assessment time. Ajax you are the boss. Same Council = Same Results Voting 100% with the Mayor is not healthy for him nor for the residents of Ward 3. Does the performance of the current incumbent deserve a raise?

October 10, 2010 - Email Received from Rene Soetens To: "Marsha Jones Dooley, CIP,CAIB," <jdinsure@rogers.com> Sent: Sun, October 10, 2010 9:56:07 AM Subject: politics I read with interest that one of your opponents thinks its a bad idea to have had an affiliation with a political party and be a member of council. She always votes with the Mayor who has been a member of the Conservative Party. That doesn't seem to bother her. I suggest that those who have been involved with a political party bring additional skills to the table. They would certainly have a better understanding of the various levels of government and their inner workings. Over the years Ajax has had numerous elected officials who have been members of political parties. They served Ajax well. These include names like Jim Witty (Mayor, Regional Chair), Joe Dickson (Councillor), Randy Low (Councillor), Susan Dulny (Councillor), Dodi Tremp (Councillor), Clark Mason (Mayor) and many more, on the current council and on previous councils. Good luck in your campaign. Rene Soetens, a member of a political party, former MP and Ajax Councillor..

Sunday, September 12, 2010 Marsha Jones Dooley in Ward 3! “It has taken me awhile, but I have officially endorsed Marsha Dooley for Ward 3 Councillor in Ajax. Marsha is a strong candidate who will fight for thoughtful spending at Town Hall. Marsha has been a community advocate, business owner, and a BIA member before entering the world of politics. Marsha puts her constituents first and that is something I have witnessed first hand. I have the utmost respect for Councillor Joanne Dies, and was very hesitant to even endorse anyone in Ward 3, but it is time for some much needed change in Ajax. Councillor Dies has voted with Mayor Steve Parish 100% of the time and that is something I just cant support. I have been a strong advocate for an independent Council and that is why I will continue to not support any Parish Party Candidates, unfortunately most of the current incumbents are members of the Parish Party. In the South we need to elect Kim Dowds, Marsha Dooley and in the North we need to re-elect Scott Crawford who is the last man standing from the "anti-parish" days of Jim McMaster and Joe Dickson”. October 11, 2010 - Email Received from Doug M., P. Eng Sent: Mon, October 11, 2010 5:39:54 PM Subject: Pickering Village Revitalization Project
A good question for Dies would be “How is it that she and the Town and Council of Ajax sold a piece of Town property in the Village and did not disclose to the buyer the true sub soil content?” The construction has been halted as substantial excavation and removal of contaminated soil is required (this was unknown to the developer). This property at the southeast corner of Old Kingston Road and Elizabeth Street will probably remain as a big empty ugly pit while lawyers make money arguing over this issue. This screw up sounds like someone was rushing to do something (sell the Town property) in the Village in time for election propaganda (look what we have done in the Village ). Oops! Just heard another backfire! Doug P. Eng.
Marsha’s Comment: Wonder how much of our tax dollars go to lawyers? ..
Followup from Doug:. What is unexpected soil condition? Does reengineering of foundation involve any soil venting due to gas?. Reengineering costs – Does developer pay for this? Anything shared by Town?. Did the buyers fail to do something here that has led to delays and additional costs? If they did I can see them eating any negative impact.. If the Town has erred here and I was the buyer, I would be looking for compensation. Let’s not play around to find the correct words here.. Someone screwed up – the Town or the buyer – The question is who and what is the impact, if any, on the Town?
